Every year we try our best to bring you the best Street Festival possible, but with that comes much work.

Without your help, we will be unable to accomplish the many wonderful things we are wanting to bring to the community.

We ask that you help us this year, at whatever level possible.

Who We Are

The Day of Portugal, Camoes and the Portuguese Communities is a worldwide event celebrated every June 10th. It is a national holiday in Portugal, commemorating the life of Luis Vaz de Camoes—Portugal’s greatest poet and recognizes the valuable contributions of the many other Portuguese Communities worldwide.

This marks the 14th year in which, we have joined with our fellow Americans to celebrate our Portuguese heritage and culture during the month of June. Once again this year our event will take place in New Bedford’s North End on June 10, 11 and 12, 2011. Every year we have thousands of individuals from this state and surrounding communities, of all ages, races and nationalities attend this weekend event.

The history of the Portuguese in Massachusetts and especially New Bedford, makes up an integral part of the history of this State. Today, New Bedford has the largest percentage of Portuguese population in the United States—more than 59% of the population of New Bedford claims Portuguese ancestry.

This festival is for everyone. It is about sharing our language and culture through various artisan craft displays directly from Portugal, traditional and modern music from all parts of Portugal, traditional Portuguese Cuisine, Educational demonstrations and literature, games and many other venues.

We also have our yearly Day of Portugal Golf Tournament, Soccer Tournament and 5k Road Race that welcomes all ages to participate. In addition to these wonderful events, we also have the great honor and pleasure of offering numerous Grants to local Charities and Scholarships to deserving students wishing to pursue a college degree. This to us has become a very important part of our organization.
